I. About DOST-PCIEERD
The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development
(PCIEERD) is a sectoral council of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). It funds and
monitors research and development in industry, energy and emerging technologies, and works to bring
Filipino innovations to industry partners and the public.
II. Rationale
Filipino creativity, long rooted in craftsmanship, storytelling and design excellence, is now strengthened by
science, technology and innovation, enabling ideas to scale, adapt and compete globally. Beyond artistic
expression, it has become a key driver of enterprise, economic growth and international competitiveness.
The creative economy amounted to P1.94 trillion in gross value added in 2024 at current prices, up 8.7%
from P1.78 trillion in 2023 (Philippine Statistics Authority). This accounted for 7.3% of the country's Gross
Domestic Product. Three domains drive most of this output: symbols and images and related activities
(textiles, garments, footwear, furniture, jewelry); advertising, research and development, and other artistic
service activities; and digital interactive goods and services (software, mobile applications, electronic
games).
III. About Creative Summit 2026
Creative Summit 2026 is organized by DOST-PCIEERD with the theme “Powering Innovation at the Heart
of the Creative Economy". It highlights the importance of innovation, collaboration and technology in
sharpening the Philippines' creative edge and positioning its creative industries to succeed on the global stage.
The Summit supports the 10-year Philippine Creative Industries Development (PCID) Plan under
Republic Act No. 11904, the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act
