GEJE EUSTAQUIO EARNS ONE INTERIM FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WITH UNANIMOUS DECISION OVER KAIRAT AKHMETOV

ALSO: JOSHUA PACIO ELECTRIFIES CROWD WITH SUBMISSION FINISH OVER LAN MING QIANG

PLUS: RAFAEL NUNES FINISHES ERIC KELLY WITH D’ARCE CHOKE

26 January 2018 – Manila, Philippines: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), sent the Mall of Asia Arena crowd into a frenzy last Friday night in Manila, with another thrilling evening of authentic martial arts action. The absolute best in local and international martial arts talent took to the ONE Championship cage at ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES to showcase their incredible skills. In the main event, Geje Eustaquio walked out of the arena to a roar of adulation and with the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship around his waist, defeating former world champion Kairat Akhmetov.

In the main event of ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES, Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of Baguio City, Philippines clinched the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship, edging Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov by unanimous decision in an exhilarating five-round title tilt. Although Akhmetov managed to showcase his wrestling, it was largely ineffective against Eustaquio, who was far superior in the striking department for the majority of the bout. Eustaquio repeatedly connected on Akhmetov with crisp, clean combinations throughout the championship contest. In the end, all three judges saw the bout in favor of Eustaquio to win by unanimous decision.

Geje Eustaquio, ONE Interim Flyweight World Champion, stated: “I don’t know what to say. This belt is not mine to take, it’s ours. Thank you to my family who was always there from the start, coach Mark Sangiao, and the entire Team Lakay who never doubted me and always believed that one day I would stand here holding this belt. I am proud to represent this flag all throughout the world. Here is your world champion from the Philippines. Adriano [Moraes] I know you’re there. I got a belt! Give me one more try and I hope to give you a better challenge this time.”

In the co-main event of the evening, 22-year-old Joshua “The Passion” Pacio unveiled an improved grappling game, submitting China’s Lan Ming Qiang via rear naked choke in the very first round. Pacio started off with his world-class wushu, operating from range with fast and powerful kicks. After taking the action to the mat, Pacio effortlessly took mount and pounded on his foe who soon gave up the back. With the body triangle locked in, Pacio sunk his forearm underneath Lan’s neck and secured the bout-ending maneuver.

Rafael “Indio” Nunes of Brazil made a triumphant return to the ONE Championship cage after two years away from competition to defeat Filipino featherweight veteran Eric “The Natural” Kelly by second-round submission. The 30-year-old Muay Thai specialist kept Kelly on the defensive with his striking before taking matters to the ground and sinking in a deep d’arce choke to score the finish.

In the first ever traditional Muay Thai bout inside the ONE Championship cage, multi-division Lumpinee World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao emerged triumphant against WBC Muay Thai Super Bantamweight World Champion Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri. Gaiyanghadao showcased his trademark power to dominate from start to finish, winning by technical knockout.

A grueling flyweight showdown between “The Southern Eagle” Ma Hao Bin of China and Sotir Kichukov of Bulgaria transpired inside the ONE Championship cage. Neither of the two would give each other any quarter for three whole rounds, as they traded their best offense all throughout. Although Kichukov would have his moments on the feet, most of the action took place on the ground where Ma enjoyed a  tremendous advantage. In the end, Ma turned in another well-rounded performance to claim victory via unanimous decision.

Japanese grappling prodigy Hayato Suzuki placed himself back on the winning track, pulling off a first-round submission victory over former world title contender Yago Bryan of Brazil. With 57 seconds remaining in the opening period of the strawweight contest, Suzuki latched onto a wrenching rear naked choke to force the tap, notching his eighth submission win as a professional.

Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia of the United States continued his impressive run in ONE Championship, knocking out Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Bruno Pucci in the first round. Urrutia stifled Pucci with crisp boxing combinations, making it difficult for the Brazilian to bring the action to the mat. Urrutia secured the statement-making finish by connecting on a sensational left hook past the midway point, sending Pucci crashing to the canvas.

Filipino featherweight standout Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly delivered a sensational first-round knockout of opponent Meas Meul, dropping the Cambodian with a high kick merely seconds into the bout. At the opening bell, Kelly engaged Meul at the center of the cage and connected on a quick three-punch combination before delivering the final blow that sent Meul face first into the canvas.

Jomary Torres of Manila, Philippines scored the most impressive win of her young career, authoring a swift knockout finish over Team Lakay atomweight ace April Osenio. Torres left a lasting impression in her third trip to the ONE Championship cage, driving Osenio to the mat with a high-impact slam before putting the final touches with follow-up ground strikes to claim the knockout.

Rajinder Singh Meena of India captured his first victory inside the ONE Championship cage, defeating highly-touted Chinese lightweight prospect Zhang Ze Hao by way of first-round submission. Determined to break into the winner’s column, Meena needed just 42 seconds in the opening round to put Zhang to sleep with a guillotine choke.

Kicking off ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES was a riveting strawweight encounter as Indonesian dynamo Adrian Matheis squared off against the debuting Eddey Kalai of Malaysia. Matheis weathered a gutsy opening sequence from Eddey, who effortlessly pummeled the ONE Strawweight Indonesia Tournament Champion with his superb boxing. The complexion of the contest took a drastic turn when Matheis gained leverage on the mat, catching Kalai with a rear naked choke to force the tap.

Fitness Trends 2018: Stick with Old, Add in the New

By John Agwunobi, M.D., M.B.A., M.P.H.

In the health and wellness field, this idea of ‘exercise is medicine’ has been found to have a significant impact on our health. Getting in shape, staying fit, keeping up a regular regimen of exercise and physical activity are as important to healthy living as your diet, nutrition, and food choices. Indeed, maximizing the number of minutes of physical activity and minimizing the number of calories are two sides of the same coin. All of it is complementary and mutually reinforcing.

So we are always interested in what’s new on the fitness front. And we asked our expert, Samantha Clayton, and a handful of members of our Fitness Advisory Boards (FABs) for their outlook for 2018.

What the Experts Say

Sam’s Take: Traditional Fitness Meets New Methods & Technology
Samantha Clayton, Senior Director, Worldwide Sports Performance & Fitness

The field of fitness and exercise in the 21st century remains a mix of new approaches and old. New classes, programming, and choreography, in hopes of keeping it exciting and fresh, enhance traditional training methods. Running and cycling are still popular, but the past year saw the return of the 1980s rebounder trampoline craze, the continued expansion of High Intensity Training (HIIT) protocols, and growing participation in competition-based fitness like mud runs, 5Ks, and triathlons.

At the same time, as in pretty much every facet of life, society and the economy, technology is a constant driver of the exercise revolution – especially as more wearable devices come online and a wider array of apps appear on our smartphones, all of them offering people simple and easy ways to monitor their activity day by day, minute by minute.

For now, though, let’s highlight three trends that we expect to progress, emerge, or burst on the scene in 2018.

First, cross training styles are here to stay—it’s simply too effective of a way to seamlessly blend building muscle with working on your cardio all at once. It remains suitable for beginners or experienced exercisers. It can be tailored to each individual’s goals. It is a recognized strategy for everything from weight loss to weight maintenance to sports performance.

And that’s before people become more and more aware of the positive metabolic and body composition results sparked by these workouts. Suffice is to say, this dynamic and versatile regimen will keep trending upward year after year into the foreseeable future.

Salvatore Nocerino, Herbalife Nutrition Fitness Consultant

Second, as noted by Salvatore Nocerino, an Herbalife Nutrition fitness consultant and FAB member in Italy, the ABC style of training will keep growing and thriving, in Europe and around the world. Short for Athletic Body Conditioning, ABC combines body weight training, weight lifting, and choreographed movements using a single step and other simple equipment. It’s high-energy and highly stylized, with workouts that rely heavily on music of momentum, rhythm, and results. It emphasizes the importance of stretching, developing muscle, building a strong and stable core, and improving coordination.

Perhaps most important of all, ABC training is fun, well rounded, and effective – and its reach is expected to expand in 2018 and beyond.

Chappy Callanta, Herbalife Nutrition Fitness Ambassador

Third, Chappy Callanta, another Herbalife Nutrition FAB member and fitness coach, believes that online and distance coaching will see a steady climb in demand, popularity, and usage in the year ahead. Technology is simply making these kinds of interactions easier, so you can find the coach you want and the guidance you need, wherever you are. Not only that, but this approach to coaching is likely to include a more holistic form of mentoring, taking into account people’s physical, nutritional, and psychosocial goals at the same time. It’ll help them recognize and alter their daily habits and utilize motivation techniques to facilitate behavioral change for the better. All of which will be key, in 2018 and long past that, to a sustainable, healthy, and active lifestyle.

No matter which trend you choose, one thing is for sure: the “exercise is medicine” movement is fast becoming a fact of life. The medical community is on board. So are top health care experts. They see it as a positive public health initiative for preventative care and disease risk management.

So if nothing else, the trend toward greater fitness as a pathway to health will continue.

Dr. John Agwunobi is the Chief Health and Nutrition Officer of Herbalife Nutrition.

Thinning hair problem? 5 ways to deal with your hair loss dilemma
Losing lots of hair each day? Starting to have bald patches on your head? One of the most fearsome thoughts for both men and women is the prospect of thinning hair. Though hair loss occurrence is higher among men, women are not exempted from this problem. According to studies, roughly 30 percent of the adult population suffers from some degree of hair loss, which can lower one’s confidence and cause anxiety. If hair is one’s crowning glory, balding hair can be a real nightmare. But worry no more. We made a list of ways for you to cope with major or minor hair loss:
1.      Cut it short. Ask your hairstylist about what haircut will best flatter your look.  Short hairstyles can minimize the appearance of thinning hair and make baldness less apparent.
2.      Style it right. Use volume-enhancing products that will make your hair stand up from the scalp to give it a thicker appearance. Avoid using greasy hair products and putting heavy hairsprays as they will flatten and clamp your hair together, thus emphasizing your bald patches. For women, layering and locking your hair in large curls can give an illusion of volume. You may also opt to blow dry your hair for extra volume.
3.      Try topical treatments. There are plenty of shampoos and scalp lotions that claim to help re-grow hair. Look for a good over-the-counter topical treatment available in the market and use it rigorously. Watch your diet closely and make sure you eat plenty of iron-, protein-, and zinc-rich foods.
4.      Look for an appropriate wig and toupee. If you want to flaunt a full-head of hair without using any topical treatments or products, invest in a good hair dress like wigs, toupees or hair extensions. With this option, you can style your hair the way you want without fear that your bald patches might be exposed. You can also pick and change your look with less hassle.
5.      Go for the long-term and permanent medical treatment.  If you want to grow your own hair naturally, and permanently, a hair transplant procedure might be the best for you. MAXiM Hair Restoration, a 12-year old American hair transplant company that has a branch in the Philippines, offers the advanced no-stitch, no linear scar technique called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) as well as the conventional hair transplant technique known as Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT). Both enable clients to grow back their hair via hair transplantation. It also offers a non-surgical method called Scalp Micropigmentation that produces a short buzz-cut look without the client undergoing an actual transplant.

MAXiM’s expert doctors are registered plastic surgeons who are skilled in surgery and aesthetics as well. Happy clients include professionals, international models, entertainment personalities and sports celebrities, most notably PBA Legend Alvin “The Captain” Patrimonio, who was the latest addition to the list of happy celebrities who have undergone MAXiM’s hair procedure. Balikbayans and overseas workers also choose to have hair transplants from MAXiM, which is super-specialized and focused on hair restoration and nothing else, for job and professional advancement.

MAXiM, offers complimentary hair transplant consultations in their office or via Skype. Interested parties may email their photos to MAXiM to get an estimate number of grafts and quotation.
