At the recently concluded election held during the 46th Kiwanis District Convention held Sept. 18, 2021 at the Royce Hotel, Clark Pampanga, a brand-new leadership prevailed. Ms. Glenda Hufano won as District Treasurer and Mr. Johnny Domino as the District Governor Elect.

Ms. Hufano has been a Kiwanis Club President for 4 consecutive years and a Lieutenant Governor for 2019-2020. She got several awards and citations from different organizations here and abroad. Her genuine care to help and her always can-do attitude makes her excel among the rest. She helped and support most of Kiwanis organizations in different clubs in the Philippines.

A true blooded Kiwanian with integrity. She is trustworthy, dynamic, focused and responsible, just so fitting for the post of Treasurer!

As she will be working hand in hand with Mr. Mario Marasigan, the District Governor, an equally genuine and energetic Kiwanian, Kiwanis Philippine District will be guided by their standing leadership principles of Integrity, Unity, Accountability and Transparency.

Glenda Hufano with a heart for service

Kiwanis clubs are advocating to help the indigent children and is existing in the Philippines for more than 50 years. For it to continue its advocacy, it needs people with genuine concern for others. It needs leaders who have the heart, as well as the strength to take swift action, armed with integrity, genuine care and solid determination, all traits of a true-blooded Kiwanian.

With her track record in the Kiwanis community, then and now, it’s undoubtedly a go for past Lieutenant Governor Glenda Hufano for a seat on this year’s Kiwanis International-Philippine Luzon District election.

She is running for District Treasurer, pushing for Unity, Transparency and Integrity. Ms. Hufano has been a Kiwanis Club President for 4 consecutive years and a Lieutenant Governor for 2019-2020. She got several awards and citations from different organizations here and abroad. She helped and support most of Kiwanis organizations in different clubs in the Philippines. High decision-making skill is one of Ms. Hufano’s outstanding traits on top of being a reliable and trustworthy individual.

“My past , business success and my team (friends and colleagues) won’t control me in terms of running in this position, its neutral to be in the middle that not all people won’t agree with you but the mere fact one has the heart in helping the community and its people- one can’t alter or change someone’s decision because of the simple reason about those 3 things. Because we know that a leader must have the heart and a mere high dedication to what he or she’s doing – a pre-requisite for a person to run in any organization’s position. “ – Ms. Hufano said.

Ms. Glenda Hufano, a mother of 4 young professionals, is someone to trust a position with, for everything that she does, she lifts it up with the Lord. She believes on Isaiah 49:23: “She who trusts in the Lord will never be disappointed”

Kiwanis International was established in 1915 at Detroit, Michigan. Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than 600,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in more than 80 countries. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. Kiwanis clubs host nearly 150,000 service projects each year.

Your Fav Durian

According to reports, Durio graveolens, sometimes called the red-fleshed durian, orange-fleshed durian, or yellow durian, is a species of tree in the family Malvaceae. It is one of six species of durian named by Italian naturalist Odoardo Beccari. The specific epithet graveolens is due to the odor.

In the Philippines, one of the famous in durian farming is Bernard Bautista of “Bautista Plant Nursery - Prutasan at Halaman sa Tabing Daan” in Makilala, North Cotobato. He sent this variety to Grace Bondad Nicolas—The Manila Times business writer, Entrepreneur and CEO of Hidden Hills Farm By Josefino to taste.

Taste and Texture according to Grace

“One of my favourite fruits, Durian. Seeing this kind of variety, makes me curious and receiving the fruits from Bernard, I’m thankful. I actually went to different countries just to have the taste of different varieties and even paid Php 1K per kilo for Musang King. I even asked a friend to join me in Davao just to satisfy our cravings.”

“In our farm, we have 40 trees of native durian and with Durio Graveolens, hoping to have this addition to our variety. The taste actually is like a crossbreed of Jackfruit and Durian, the smell is the same also, Jackfruit or Langka in the Philippines. Its like also with a taste of wine. So if you like both, this is a catch. As for the texture, it’s more fine and creamy.”

The durian is the edible fruit of several tree species belonging to the genus Durio. There are 30 recognised Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit, with over 300 named varieties in Thailand and 100 in Malaysia, as of 1987.  The famous in the Philippines, Puyat is the Philippine's main commercial durian variety. It's exported to different countries and is the main durian variety you'll find if you visit Davao City.
