National Holiday Celebrated by Kiwanis Clubs with 1000 kids from NHA




Independence Day is a celebration nationwide in the Philippines and a time for a lot of Filipinos for a vacation since it’s also a national holiday but to some of the Kiwanians under Philippine Luzon District in Division 3A; Mckinley, Malate West, Makati, Manila Bay, Pasay, Pasay North and Pasay Eagle, they made sure that 1000 kids from National Housing Authority will enjoy the freedom they are experiencing today. 




Headed by Engr. Grace Bondad Nicolas, Lieutenant Governor for that Division which is composed of the Metro Manila clubs, they launched the feeding, medical mission and gift giving for the children that resides inside the National Housing Authority in Barangay Santo Tomas, Calauan, Laguna headed by Captain Rommel Belano. 




The children enjoyed the festivities with games headed by Manila Bay President Ezelle Gascon with different prizes that’s provided by the club and supported by President Lito Marquez as the emcee while two from Pasay; President Daisy Mapili and Past President Daisy Anzures assisted also. 


At the same time, Dr. Rocaya Mangondato of Mckinley started the medical mission with a check up for the children and giving vitamins, she brought also 10 of her members to help. 




Kiwanis members from different parts of the globe with the objective to improve the welfare of the indigent children and statistically provides more than 150,000 service projects annually globally. Glenda Veloria Hufano is the upcoming Governor this October 2023 that will lead  over 5000 members nationwide which comprises 27 divisions.

After the mass activity with these children, Engr. Grace Bondad Nicolas treated the members of the clubs who participated with a much awaited team building. She brought everyone at Hidden Hills Farm by Josefino in Calauan, Laguna for a memorable pineapple picking and brought home not just pineapples but also newly picked mangoes. 


The team also tasted cakes from the most popular cake house in Laguna, Mernel’s and of course the sweetest pineapples from the farm. 




Then the whole team head to La Terazza Garan Hot Spring Resort in Los BaƱos to continue the team building. Engr. Grace prepared also sumptuous food for everyone with Karaoke for all to enjoy not to mention that everyone enjoyed the warm water in the pool. 


According to Engr. Grace during her speech in the meeting, she likes to utilize the remaining months as Lieutenant Governor for impact projects with the cooperation of the clubs and that positions and designations might have a limited time but the friendship, it will continue. She expresses also gratitude to all especially the 8 clubs who travel for 2.5 hours to execute the activities.

A Celebration Of Life With The Needy

 



While it’s a custom for many to celebrate ones birthdays with family and friends to thank for their existence and for being grateful, Atty. Joe Redoblado opted to celebrate his 75th birthday with and for the indigent children. 




“Instead of treating my relatives, old officemate, and old friends to lunch on my 75th bday, I opted to treat poor young children to lunch. First Part was the cathechism conducted by the sisters of visitation, the second part was the lunch consisting of spaghetti, fried  chicken and drinks, the third part was the magician which was liked by the children and adult. The laughter and joy experienced by the children was one of the memories I'll treasure. I noticed the poor children do not finish their food, but instead they bring it  home.”- Atty. Joe Redoblado 




Atty. Joe Redoblado belongs to Kiwanis International, Philippine Luzon District as its former Governor of the District and part of Division 3A, Pasay Club. His birthday celebration with the needy is just a testament that in heart and mind, helping the children is part of his personality. 


Kiwanis Club of Pasay is also celebrating their 53rd year anniversary. They participated and supported the 1000 Days Alliance that was recently launched at The Manila Hotel in solidarity with different civic and government organizations that help implement the RA 11148. They participated in the booth and sent many attendees.

Cebu, Philippines- There were 500 attendees on the recently concluded awards show at Waterfront Hotels and Casino and attended by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian and Senator JV Ejercito among others. 


For Philanthropy since serving the children of the world is her core objective for more than 8 years now, Glenda Hufano of Unicloud and the upcoming Governor of Kiwanis International in Philippine Luzon District has been recognized for her initiatives to uplift the lives of the indigents kids.

Arrived from Manila with her two friends, Ezelle Gascon of PNB and Grace Bondad Nicolas of Rising Tigers Magazine, also part of Kiwanis where they met years ago, Glenda even on vacation to attend the award is making sure to extend help in any way possible accepting and receiving phone calls from different individuals and organizations seeking for partnership and collaboration to widen her reach to serve more.

Glenda is so overwhelmed and grateful for the recognition especially with the biggies from different t industries. According to her, it’s just a testament that she is doing the right thing and will continue what she started to help and reach more indigent children in or out of any organization.

World Vision and Eco-Waste Coalition host PHINLA Global Waste Management Conference In Manila




With the alarming waste generation posing massive health risks and environmental degradation globally, concerned individuals and groups from around the world have also taken concrete action to address and mitigate irreversible impact to the envoronment and the vulnerable sector including the waste collectors.


In the Asian Region, World Vision's solid waste management (SWM) program PHINLA, funded by the German  government and development agency BMZ and in partnership with local actors, has strengthened eco-friendly initiatives in the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Ondonesia through innovation and enhancements of effective waste management practices at the village or community level. The PHINLA program aims to empower waste workers and communities affected by poor waste management by harnessing waste collection and management processes to provide additional livelihood source  assisting local government in developing/enhancing their solid waste management systems and raising public awareness and involvement in addressing waste challenges in different country context.




Following PHINLA's successful implementation in the last four years, International development and advocacy agency World Vision in partnership with Eco-Waste Coalition, organizes the Global Waste Management Conference in Manila with the theme "Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Waste Management: Innovations, Partnerships, and Empowerment", to be held on May 4-5, 2023  8:30AM-4;30 PM at the Heritage Hotel Manila Pasay City, Philippines.




Nearly a hundred International delegates and the media are expected to attend from the Philippines  Sri Lanka, and Indonesia including representatives from different government and country offices, private providers, and multi-sectoral stakeholders on solid waste management at the local and community level.


The global conference also aims to highlight and celebrate what worked in the participating countries, especially the lessons and promising practices worth replicating and scaling up in the region. The eco-inspired event also hopes to highlight the Philppine government's contribution to Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
